Where from
In 1947 Grete and Leopold Gössl founded a linen-making and tailoring workshop in Salzburg. Because new fabrics were scarce, they unpicked old clothes and linen and worked them into something new with great care. From this grew a house that has been known above all for its blouses since the 1960s. A great deal of handwork and lovingly placed pin tucks and hems give them an unmistakable signature and make them sought-after favourite models.
What
The particular craft techniques have names of their own: pin tucks are narrow, flat-pressed folds running parallel to one another. In hemstitching, exposed threads are gathered into bundles so that small openings appear. Bobbin lace is created by twisting and crossing threads many times over. Added to these are crocheted trims, smocking, fine cotton lace and the herringbone stitch, whose crossed stitches run between two imagined lines.
What for
Alongside the long blouse, which also has its place in everyday life, the Dirndl blouse stands as an equal counterpart.
