Edition

In 2009, in the midst of the global economic crisis, a conviction took shape at Gössl: the world must not content itself with mediocrity. Precisely in a time of restraint, we wanted to give the special its space. We took the freedom to design without regard to effort or cost. From this attitude the Gössl Edition emerged. Since then it has formed the pinnacle of our collections.

At the beginning stood the question of what becomes possible when we give our imagination free rein. When we take an extraordinary fabric as our starting point. When an embroidery may be given as much time as it demands. Commercial success was never the measure. We wanted to show how far our skill, our curiosity and our love of the Gwand would carry us.

In the Edition, the best of what makes Gössl comes together. That may be elaborate handwork, a rare fabric or a design that reinterprets familiar forms. Embroidery, hand printing, smocking and hand knitting belong to it just as much as blue printing, artful jacquards, fine leather and fur. Each model finds its own expression. What they share is the uncompromising demand for the highest quality.

The Edition may also ask where the boundaries of Tracht lie. What it should preserve and where it can develop. Innovation is deeply rooted in our history: we want to set new accents and think beyond the familiar. True to the old, open to the new – in the Edition we take this thought at its word.

In this way models also come about on which opinions differ. They may surprise, polarise and spark conversation. An avant-garde design need not suit every taste. It needs a signature of its own and people who recognise themselves in it. The Edition is made for them: for connoisseurs who recognise the extraordinary and take pleasure in wearing it.

Every Edition model is limited to 100 examples. It is not produced again. Once the edition is taken, the design remains a closed chapter of our history – and lives on in the Gwand of those who chose it. Therein lies a particular appeal: to own something that was created with great freedom and is not repeated.
