Velvet Dirndl

This Dirndl with a Munich neckline has a bodice made of fine, long-pile velvet. At the back, the bodice is refined by hand with a herringbone stitch and daisy embroidery. The skirt is distinguished by a fine jacquard weave, giving the understated Dirndl a festive note.

The Dirndl made to measure
Every Gössl Dirndl is made with particular devotion; it is considered tailoring craft. With seam allowances at the side seam, the waist, the shoulder and the skirt, the Dirndl can easily be altered to two further sizes – one larger, one smaller. Jacquard

Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a groundbreaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds very technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hardly imaginable until then into the fabric . That historical jacquard looms are still used today to make authentic fabrics for the church, the theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. At a local weaving mill, Gössl combines the jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.

Herringbone stitch and daisy stitch

The herringbone stitch is a traditional hand embroidery technique in which fine, crossed stitches create a decorative and at the same time stable seam. It gives the Gwand a characterful, hand-worked structure and is often used as a symbolic detail for good fortune.

The daisy stitch is a delicate, floral form of embroidery in which blossom-like loops are formed. It appears playful and elegant at once and brings a light, natural ornamentation to the Gwand. Both stitches stand for traditional handwork and loving attention to detail.

The perfect fit

The Dirndl bodice has been continually developed further at Gössl for decades. The boning sewn into the bodice conceals every unwanted crease and guarantees a perfect fit when standing as well as when sitting. The fine Paspel (piping) at the back additionally emphasises the figure in a very charming way and ensures that the Dirndl always sits correctly.
