The Gilet in Original Bauernleinen sets old finishing techniques in an innovative scene. The patterns of historical hand-printing blocks have been combined as three-dimensional relief embroidery with traditional hand printing. Through the changing structure of the Bauernleinen in combination with embroidery and print, the block pattern achieves a breathtaking dimensionality. Fibonacci buttons in metal round off the Gilet with assurance.
Bauernleinen
The Original Bauernleinen, the linen of the farmhouses, has long been an important part of the cultural history of the Alpine region. The linen cloth was omnipresent in everyday life: bed covers, table linen, Gwand – everywhere the Bauernleinen showed its singularity through its characteristic structure. The thickenings of the spun yarns stand out in the woven fabric as well, its changeable appearance makes the Bauernleinen unmistakable and singular. Gössl takes the tradition and individuality of this fabric and makes it the basis of new ideas with old strength.
The Blaudruck – intense and expressive
The Blaudruck, the indigo resist print, has a long tradition in Austria. It is a true craft, perfected early and preserved across centuries. With its strong colour and its contrast, the traditional Blaudruck shows a fascinating presence at once. The many details that make up a genuine Blaudruck arise above all from the demanding production process. For what is printed is precisely what will not be dyed later. Traditional motifs are printed on in precise handwork with pure acacia resin. The natural drying process that follows takes up to ten weeks. Only when it is certain that the resin can withstand the dye completely is the fabric immersed in the dye bath. Gössl takes up this heritage of textile finishing humbly, yet does not shy away from adding further chapters to this success story and from enriching the traditional in fabrics and refining techniques with new variations. Combined with new colours, Gössl shows the Blaudruck as the versatile all-rounder of Tracht.
