Jacquard
Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a groundbreaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds very technical opens up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hardly imaginable until then into the fabric . That historical Jacquard looms are still used today to produce authentic fabrics for church, theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. At a local weaving mill, Gössl combines Jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.
