Wiener Werkstätten

The Wiener Werkstätte was a community of important artists and designers founded in 1903 around Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Fritz Waerndorfer. Inspired by the British Arts and Crafts Movement, it pursued the aim of uniting art, craft and everyday life and of giving the applied arts new expressive power.

With their artful designs, the Wiener Werkstätte shaped furniture, fabrics, jewellery and everyday objects of extraordinary aesthetic and craftsmanship quality. The skirt pattern of the Dirndl shown here was chosen from historical archives.
