Jacquard Dirndl

The short Dirndl presents itself all over in linen jacquard. The self-patterned fabric positively asks to be looked at closely. The Munich neckline is framed by a fine looped braid. Shimmering mother-of-pearl buttons with a facetted cut stand in line along the button placket. At the back, a Hexenstich finishes the Dirndl.

Jacquard

Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a groundbreaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for every weft thread. What sounds very technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hitherto scarcely imaginable into the fabric . That historical jacquard looms are still used today to produce authentic fabrics for church, theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. Gössl combines the jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.

The mother-of-pearl

Mother-of-pearl is a natural solid substance found in mussel shells. Its surface shimmers opal-like according to the incidence of light. With their sheen, mother-of-pearl buttons give every model that certain something.

The Hexenstich

The hand-set Hexenstich is Gössl's homage to craftsmanship in the old tradition. It marks the true value of the Gwand. According to folk belief, the name derives from the oath of a witch to the devil, in which she is said to raise her left hand. Since cross stitch is embroidered from left to right, the thread has to be drawn smooth to the left, which brings about the characteristic movement of the hand.
