Stately patterning

The jacket in silk/linen jacquard shows opulent motifs reminiscent of brocade patterns. A narrow shawl lapel lies around the neck. The traditional Ischl pockets and the Dragoner (back belt) are worked in fine dupion silk. Fine metal buttons stand in line along the button placket.

Jacquard

Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a ground-breaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds highly technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hitherto scarcely imaginable into the fabric . That historical jacquard looms are still used today to produce authentic fabrics for church, theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. At a local weaving mill, Gössl combines jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.

Brocade pattern

The brocade pattern denotes an artfully woven-in pattern with often floral or ornamental motifs. Characteristic is the refined, slightly three-dimensional appearance created by the particular weaving technique.
