Jacquard
Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard led to a ground-breaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds highly technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hardly imaginable until then into the fabric . That historic Jacquard looms are still used today to produce authentic fabrics for church, theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. At a local weaving mill, Gössl combines the Jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.
