Deerskin jacket with lambskin lining

The stand-collar jacket has a wonderfully warm lining of lambskin. With Lederhosen buttons of buffalo horn. The deerskin is robust and offers protection, yet it lies pleasantly on the skin, gives freedom of movement and prevents perspiration. Leather develops its character with increasing age and forms a patina such as is particularly valued by lovers of Tracht. Gössl uses leather in many ways. A deerskin jacket is many times more robust and more durable than goatskin, for example. The jacket shown here is made from chamois-tanned deerskin, an elaborate, traditional process in which hides are worked into soft and breathable leather through the combination of fish oil and oxygen. After preparation with lime and enzymes, the hides are milled in the drum and dry over several weeks. In the course of this, oxidation creates the finished leather. Finally, the chamois leather is washed, sanded and dyed several times, which gives it its unique feel and intensity of colour – ideally suited to high-quality garments.
