Jacket with corded quilting

The hemp

Hemp is the first plant cultivated by people and is found in almost all parts of the world. The hemp fibre, obtained from dried hemp straw through various working steps, looks back on a tradition in textile making that is thousands of years old. Somewhat forgotten in recent decades, Gössl values its characteristic qualities and makes it the base fabric of its ideas. Hemp is light and supple, yet stable in shape and hardly creases.

Corded quilting

The corded quilting is one of those outstanding forms of classical textile art. For it, the tailor lays a piping cord beneath the outer fabric and quilts it with a twin needle that runs along to the left and right of the cord. In this way the fabric gains a relief that looks as though it were embossed.

When the making of precious garments was still pure handwork in the 18th century, it was not only the talented tailor who played an important role. Not seldom was a new dress, after successful bespoke tailoring, handed over to the milliner, who refined the fabric with fashionable details through precision, skill and inventiveness. In Tracht these eye-catchers are known as Auszier (decorative trim), which, with traditional patterns and forms, gives information about the origin and customs of the Tracht. The corded quilting is one of those forms of classical textile art that came to particular importance through the Salzburg quilted Mieder (bodice). Silk

is hypoallergenic and therefore ideal for allergy sufferers and asthmatics, as natural substances in the silk keep house dust mites, mould and fungi away. It regulates moisture, warms in winter and cools in summer. Silk is also flame-retardant, kind to the skin and provides a luxurious feel when worn.

Piped buttonholes

Piped buttonholes are particularly finely bound buttonholes, in which narrow strips of fabric enclose the edges cleanly. This traditional tailoring technique provides stability and an elegant, precise appearance.
