The gobelin embroidery
What the checked tartan is to the Scot, the richly embroidered braces worn with the Lederhose are to our noble houses as a sign of belonging to their families. The outstanding examples carry a gobelin embroidery. The technique arose as early as the 17th century at the French court and allows fine, richly detailed motifs to be depicted. It turns the yarn into a tool for breathtaking textile paintings.

The Meran pattern
The motif of the "Meraner" shows the belonging to the House of Meran. The Habsburg line was founded by the marriage of Archduke Johann of Austria to Anna Plochl and follows on from the history of the House of Andechs-Meranien of the 12th century.
