The pocket square in pure silk jacquard has been printed with traditional patterns in the genuine Blaudruck (indigo resist printing) process.
Blaudruck – intense and expressive
The Blaudruck has a long tradition in Austria. It is a true craft that was perfected early on and has been preserved over centuries. With its strong colour and its contrast, traditional Blaudruck immediately shows a fascinating presence. The many details that make up genuine Blaudruck arise above all from the demanding production process. For what is printed is precisely what will not be dyed later. Traditional motifs are printed on in precise handwork with pure acacia resin. The natural drying process that follows takes up to ten weeks. Only when it is certain that the resin can completely withstand the colour is the fabric dipped into the dye bath. Gössl takes up this heritage of textile refinement humbly, yet does not shy away from adding further chapters to this success story and enriching traditional fabrics and refinement techniques with new variations. Combined with new colours, Gössl presents Blaudruck as the versatile all-rounder of Tracht.
Jacquard
Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a groundbreaking innovation. He found a way of raising and lowering the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds highly technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hardly imaginable until then into the fabric . That historical Jacquard looms are still used today to make authentic fabrics for the church, the theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. Gössl links the Jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.
