Twenty years after the invention of the mechanical loom in 1785, the pioneering spirit of the French silk weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard brought about a groundbreaking innovation. He found a way to raise and lower the warp threads individually for each weft thread. What sounds highly technical opened up the possibility of weaving patterns of a fineness hitherto barely imaginable into the fabric . That historical Jacquard looms are still used today to make authentic fabrics for the church, the theatre and Tracht stands as a symbol of the inventor's success. Gössl combines the Jacquard technique with traditional patterns of Tracht.
