Hand-smocked satin with delicate zigzag hexagons
This Dirndl blouse in soft Anna Plochl cotton satin shows fine hand-worked smocking in double zigzag rows, forming ornamental hexagons on the front and sleeves. Thread buttons stand in line along the button placket. The round neckline goes exceptionally well with the Salzburg and Munich Dirndl necklines. A herringbone stitch adorns the back.
Hand smocking/waffle smocking
Originally, smock described a loose overdress, whose construction soon became a generic term in handwork. For the basis of every smocking is a section of fabric gathered by running threads into fine, even folds. For smocking to be flawless, both must be set precisely and evenly.
