The Habsburg Doppeladler
As the king of the skies, the eagle stands in many cultures for loftiness and strength; it has always been a figure of identification. The rulers of the Holy Roman Empire showed it with two heads, representing king and emperor. Out of this long tradition the Habsburgs borrowed their heraldic animal and made it the widely known emblem of the k.u.k. monarchy.
