The witch stitch
The hand-set witch stitch is Gössl's homage to craftsmanship in the old tradition. It marks the true worth of the Gwand. According to folk belief, the name derives from the oath a witch swears to the devil, for which she is said to raise her left hand. Since the cross stitch is embroidered from left to right, the thread has to be drawn smooth to the left, which brings about the characteristic movement of the hand.
