The Gobelin embroidery
What the checked tartan is to the Scot, the richly embroidered braces worn with the Lederhose are to our noble houses as a sign of belonging to their families. The outstanding examples carry a Gobelin embroidery. The technique arose as early as the 17th century at the French court and allows fine, richly detailed motifs to be depicted. It turns the yarn into a tool for breathtaking textile paintings.
